Packaging gets designed last on a lot of programs, after the product is finalized — which is exactly backwards, because a product that arrives damaged loses the customer regardless of how well it was built.
Protection against the real shipping path
Drops, stacking pressure, vibration, and temperature swings during freight are different stresses than a retail shelf. A box that looks and feels sturdy in a showroom can still fail in a container stacked six pallets high — which is why packaging gets tested against the actual route a product will travel, not just handled gently once in a sample check.
Retail presentation without adding fragility
A retail box has to represent the brand — printed graphics, an unboxing experience, inserts that hold the product securely — while still surviving the shipping carton around it. Those two goals pull in different directions, and reconciling them is a packaging engineering problem as real as any part on the product.
Fit between product, insert, and carton
Foam or molded inserts, retail boxes, and shipping cartons all have to be dimensioned against the actual finished product coming off the assembly line — not a CAD model that shifted slightly by the time production started.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between retail packaging and shipping packaging?
Retail packaging is what a customer sees and opens — box design, inserts, printed graphics — and it has to protect the product while representing the brand on a shelf or an unboxing video. Shipping packaging is built to survive the freight and last-mile journey, which is a different set of stresses (drops, stacking, vibration) than a retail box alone is designed for. A product often needs both, engineered together so the retail box survives inside the shipping carton.
Why does packaging matter enough to be its own step, not an afterthought?
A product that arrives damaged never gets evaluated on its own merits — the packaging failure becomes the customer's whole experience. Box strength, internal cushioning or foam fit, and carton stacking strength all have to be tested against the real shipping path, not assumed adequate because the box looks sturdy.
Can Fudakin handle packaging for a product it didn't manufacture?

What does 'fulfillment' mean in a manufacturing context?
After a product is packaged, it has to be warehoused, kitted, and shipped — to a retailer, a distributor, or an end customer. We run that from our own warehousing in Bangkok, Thailand, so a product can go from finished assembly to packed carton to outbound shipment without changing hands between separate companies.
